“New Balance Basketball revealed today the first Kawhi Leonard signature basketball shoe named the KAWHI that will make its debut during tonight’s NBA All-Star Game in Chicago. Exactly one year after New Balance re-entered basketball with the OMN1S, the 4x NBA All-Star Kawhi Leonard will once again make history stepping on-court wearing his first signature basketball shoe. The KAWHI launches globally in Fall 2020 and will release in limited quantities this Spring.”
Kawhi Leonard originally signed with New Balance to become the face of their basketball division during the Fall of 2018, after departing from Jordan Brand. He’s been wearing the New Balance OMN1S, which has constantly been seen as his signature shoe. Little did we all know, the KAWHI is in fact Leonard’s first signature shoe with New Balance.
New Balance has yet to reveal official tech specs on the shoe and its pricing, but just from an initial glimpse, we have a good idea of what to expect from Kawhi Leonard’s signature. They look to feature a very similar upper to the OMN1S—a woven material called “FitWeave”. The tooling also appears to utilize New Balance’s popular FuelCell foam cushioning, and an aggressive multi-directional herringbone traction pattern. Completing the look are multiple synthetic panels and overlays throughout the upper, as well as a TPU heel counter to stabilize the foam and help lockdown your heel.
