Earlier this summer, Jordan Brand unveiled its plans for the near future, with innovating new designs that broke the mold of traditional Jordan models. With that plan the first of the Proto models was introduced to the public and became known as the Air Jordan Apex Utility. This new design which we featured on One on One Testers a few months back was an original silhouette that mashed the Air Jordan 1 Flyknit with Nike’s React sneaker. The outcome was a Jordan 1 flyknit upper covered by a translucent shard that was seen on Nike’s React sneaker. The cushioning and sole of the sneaker would now feature Nike’s react cushioning.
Aside from the clear inspiration of the two sneakers that it preceded, Jordan Brand took inspiration from an astronauts moon shoes in making its next silhouette the Jordan Proto React. Similarly the next new silhouette the Jordan Proto React shares the sole and cushioning of the Apex, but features a more solid shrouded upper. The lacing system appears to be the same, as the strap is till featured on the heel and the lace eyelets are on the edge of the shroud.
The final silhouette that we have received images of is the Jordan Proto 720. This design ditches the react cushioning for the sole that will be featured on the upcoming Nike Air Max 720. This new air max cushioning is combined with a similar upper to the other sneakers of the Photo series, aside from a solid shroud that appears to be made of a more solid material than the rain jacket like material used in the other models. This model seems to offer more stability and lockdown then the previous loose fitting Proto models.
News of two more silhouettes, the Jordan React Low and the Jordan React Assassin also made it to the public, but Jordan Brand has yet to unveil any images for these sneakers yet. Similarly, a release date has not been set for any sneakers from Jordan’s new Proto line, but it is rumored that they will release sometime in 2019.
