After news broke early last month of a Jordan 5 Retro NRG release for the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (Will Smith’s), we finally get our first in hand look of the release as well as a first look at what will be the friends and family edition of the sneaker via an alias Instagram account of Will Smith’s called Philasneakerguy68.
This second silhouette also releasing September 50th is much different than what the public release will be. The first noticeable change to the sneaker is the colorway which ditches the white upper of the Jordan 5 Grape, for what appears to be either gold or a faded taxi yellow color. In fact on the family and friends edition of the sneaker the only hints at the grape colorway are featured on the tongue which bares the usual purple and teal that we are used to seeing on the Jordan 5 “Grape”, as well as a very similar sole the only difference is a black toe instead of white. Jordan brand also added black laces to the sneaker a feature that is left off of the public release.
If you want to snag a pair of these, good luck as Jordans friends and family releases are nearly impossible for the everyday sneaker-head to get their hands on. Do you think this new friends and family edition is better than the public release? Give us your opinion in the comments below and check out the some more picks of these kicks.
