In September of 2019, Jordan Brand launched a budget-friendly basketball shoe, retailed at $100 that offered very similar technology to its higher-end performance counterpart, the Air Jordan 34. For the 2020-21 the brand looks to continue their successful new budget line, with the Jordan Jumpman 2021.
The Jumpman 2021 arrives with a completely new silhouette in comparison to its predecessor model, the Jumpman 2020. The Jumpman 2020’s upper build arrived very reminiscent of the Air Jordan 34, while the midsole was a take-down in terms of the aesthetic and tech-specs department. However, this time around, the Jumpman 2021 features a tooling that is more reminiscent of the Air Jordan 34, while the upper build sports a completely new aesthetic in comparison to both the Jumpman 2020 and Air Jordan 34. The build appears to utilize a textile mesh upper, paired with various synthetic overlaying, along with a nylon cabled lacing enclosure, which tightens an adjustable, detached synthetic tongue. The tooling is where the big similarity between the Jumpman 2021 and Air Jordan 34 is seen, as the midsole looks to feature a midfoot “eclipse plate” which is a cored out section at the midfoot, caged by TPU to reduce the shoe’s weight and provide torsional rigidity. While it may end up being featured inside of the midsole, Zoom Air is not visible in the first look photo below.
